As Tanzania prepares for the general elections on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, religious and community leaders in Dodoma Region have joined forces with residents to urge peace, calling it a crucial driver of social and economic development. They described peace as the nation’s greatest blessing.

Pastor Pendo Yohana of Michese Village, Bishop Antony Saimon, Chairperson of the Dodoma Christian Denominations Council, and Sheikh Ahmed Said Ahmed, spokesperson for the Dodoma Islamic community, are among the leaders promoting harmony.

They urged every Tanzanian to safeguard peace and avoid actions that could threaten national stability.

“Peace is the foundation for development,” Bishop Saimon said. “It allows communities to thrive, ensures access to essential services like education and healthcare, and strengthens security for all citizens.”

Local residents also joined the call. Emmanuel Kamome, a motorcycle taxi driver, and Shukuru Chimwaga, spokesperson for the Dodoma Actors’ Association, pledged to be ambassadors of peace, particularly during the election period.

Candidates for the presidency, including CCM’s Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, joined citizens in warning youth and communities against being manipulated by those seeking to disrupt peace under the guise of elections.

Leaders stressed that voting is a democratic right and should never be a reason for violence or unrest.

The call for calm comes amid heightened attention on maintaining national unity, highlighting the role of citizens and leaders alike in ensuring that the October 29 elections proceed peacefully.
