Mufti Abubakar urges Tanzanians to uphold peace as nation heads to polls

The Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir Ali Mbwawa, has called on Muslims and all Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, to elect responsible leaders capable of driving development, while urging everyone to safeguard the peace that defines the nation.

Addressing a special gathering of Muslim leaders and believers at Masjid Taqwa in Mwembetongwa, Makambako, Njombe Region, Sheikh Abubakar stressed that peace remains the cornerstone of Tanzania’s stability and progress.

He encouraged Muslims to lead by example in promoting unity, calm, and tolerance within their communities.

“Our Prophet is a messenger of peace, blessings, and goodness. He proclaimed peace as ordained by God,” said the Mufti. “I remind the youth that peace is more valuable than anything else. Do not allow anyone to mislead you into acts that threaten it. As Muslims, we must think deeply before acting — to know what is right and what is wrong. Guard peace. Protect peace. And whenever you have the chance, speak and preach about peace.”

His remarks come as the country prepares for the 2025 General Election, amid broader appeals from religious and civic leaders for citizens to maintain harmony and participate responsibly in the democratic process.

Sheikh Abubakar reiterated that sustainable peace is vital for national development, urging believers to uphold it through positive action, mutual respect, and continuous dialogue that strengthens unity across Tanzania.
