The upcoming Msalato International Airport is set to transform Tanzania into a key regional hub for air transport, trade, and investment in the Great Lakes region, government officials say.
Tanzania’s Ambassador to Sweden, Mobhare Matinyi, highlighted the strategic role of the airport during a visit by a Tanzanian delegation to Arlanda International Airport in Stockholm.
The delegation met officials from Avia Solutions Group, a leading European aviation company, to study modern airport operations and management.
“Msalato Airport will not only handle passengers but also facilitate the transport of perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, and flowers, connecting our producers to international markets,” Ambassador Matinyi said. “This airport is central to our plan to drive trade and investment in the region.”
The delegation includes Engineer Shomari Shomari, Director of Transport Infrastructure at the Ministry of Transport; Clemence Jingu, Director of Msalato International Airport; and Shani Mayosa, Legal Officer at the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA).
They will also visit Lithuania to gain further insights into efficient airport management.
Avia Solutions Group, which manages 15 airports across Scandinavia and operates a fleet of 221 aircraft, brings decades of experience in airport technology and operations.
Construction of Msalato International Airport in Dodoma has reached 94% completion for infrastructure and 62% for buildings.
Once operational, it will support domestic and international flights, attract investment, boost tourism, and strengthen Tanzania’s position as a regional logistics and trade hub in East Africa.
