Staff at the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in Dodoma have taken a significant step toward healthier lives by receiving education and on-site screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The initiative aims to prevent and control diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity, ensuring employees remain healthy and productive.
The program, held on October 15, 2025, at the Ministry’s offices in Mtumba Government City, was conducted by health experts from the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Tanzania Diabetes Association (TDB) and Capital City Marathon.
Mr. Samwel Mwashambwa, Assistant Director of Administration and representative of the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, said the initiative will help staff adopt healthier lifestyles and monitor their health proactively.
“This program is essential for building awareness and motivating employees to take charge of their health,” he said.
Mr. Rashid Anzi, Assistant Nursing Officer at Dodoma Regional Hospital, added that workplace screenings boost staff efficiency and contribute to the nation’s development.
“By knowing their health status, employees can improve both their personal wellbeing and their work performance,” he explained.
Ms. Upendo Hamidu, Chief Fisheries Officer, stressed the importance of understanding one’s health. “Screening for NCDs at work allows staff to take informed actions to stay healthy, which directly improves productivity,” she noted.
This initiative reflects the growing commitment of public institutions to safeguard employee health, ensuring that staff can continue contributing effectively to national growth.
