Karatu District Commissioner Dr. Lameck Ng’ang’a Karanga has assured residents of calm and safety as Tanzania heads toward the General Election slated for Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Addressing journalists in his office, Dr. Karanga said security measures have been reinforced to guarantee peace during the final campaign stretch, voting day, and after the election process concludes.
He urged residents to disregard false information circulating online claiming that the polls would not take place on the scheduled date.
“The government has ensured that peace and order will prevail before, during, and after the elections. I urge all citizens to turn out in large numbers, cast their votes, and return home peacefully. The protection of votes is the responsibility of the Police and the National Electoral Commission not the voters,” Dr. Karanga said.
He also warned against political propaganda spreading on social media, reminding the public that security agencies and the electoral commission are fully prepared to manage the process transparently and safely.
Meanwhile, the Karatu District Election Officer, Ms. Farida Kimambo, confirmed that all preparations for the 2025 General Election are complete.
She said polling will take place at the same centers where voters registered, and urged citizens to visit those stations to verify their names and information ahead of election day.
“A voter who has lost or damaged their voter card can still vote using alternative identification such as a driving license, passport, or national ID card, as long as the name matches what appears in the voter register,” Ms. Kimambo explained.
She added that on October 25, 2025, the district will conduct training for polling clerks, followed by sessions for presiding officers and their assistants on October 26 and 27 to ensure a shared understanding of election procedures and responsibilities.
Ms. Kimambo reaffirmed the election team’s readiness to conduct a smooth, transparent, and peaceful exercise.
“The people of Karatu should rest assured that everything is in place to ensure a credible election that reflects the will of the voters,” she said.
