The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced updated figures for registered voters and polling stations to be used in Tanzania’s 2025 General Election, following official information from the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC).
The revised data reflects the completion of the official processing of voter registration in Zanzibar. The total number of registered voters nationwide now stands at 37,647,235, representing a significant increase of over 26 percent compared to the 2020 election.
Of these, nearly 37 million are on the mainland, while just under one million are registered in Zanzibar. Women slightly outnumber men, accounting for 50.34 percent of registered voters.
The number of polling stations has also been adjusted to 99,895 across the country, up from the previous 81,567 used in 2020.
The majority are in mainland Tanzania, with a small portion in Zanzibar, reflecting population distribution and ensuring accessibility for all voters.
Under the law governing the elections of the President, Members of Parliament, and local councillors, Zanzibar’s voter register forms an integral part of the national register.
This ensures that every eligible citizen in both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar has the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
INEC has assured the public that it will provide political parties with detailed information on all polling stations to ensure a smooth and transparent election.
The Commission reminds every registered voter that their participation is crucial, emphasizing that “Your Vote, Your Right – Make It Count” in the 2025 General Election.
