The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the parliamentary election in Siha Constituency, Kilimanjaro Region, following the death of Civic United Front (CUF) candidate Daudi Wilbrod Ntuyebahi.
INEC said in a statement issued on Wednesday that it received an official notification from the CUF District Secretary in Siha confirming the passing of Mr. Ntuyebahi, who had been cleared to vie for the parliamentary seat under the party’s ticket.
According to the Commission, the decision complies with Section 71(1) of the Elections Act No. 1 of 2024, which requires the suspension of an election process in the event of a candidate’s death before the polls.
“The suspension takes effect from October 8, 2025, and a new election date will be announced through the Government Gazette once preparations are complete,” the statement read in part.
INEC urged all political parties, candidates, and voters in Siha to remain calm and wait for further communication regarding the new election schedule.
Siha is one of the constituencies in Kilimanjaro Region, known for its vibrant political competition and high voter turnout in past elections.
