The Ministry of Energy has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy to all Tanzanians as part of the country’s long-term development drive under the National Vision 2050.

Speaking during a working session held in Dodoma with the National Planning Commission (NPC), the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, said the government is determined to make energy the backbone of Tanzania’s industrial and economic growth.

The meeting, led by Dr. Linda Ezekiel, Deputy Executive Secretary for Performance Management and Evaluation at the NPC, focused on aligning the Ministry’s ongoing and planned projects with the goals of Vision 2050.

Engineer Mramba said energy plays a vital role in transforming the country’s economy, noting that it has been identified in the Vision 2050 framework as one of the five key pillars that will accelerate Tanzania’s development.

“Reliable and sustainable energy is the engine that drives industries, businesses, and communities. It is the foundation of progress,” he said.

He highlighted major strategic projects being implemented by the Ministry, including the 400kV Chalinze–Dodoma power transmission line, which is set for completion in June 2026.

Once operational, the project will help stabilize and expand electricity access across regions such as Katavi, Kigoma, and other parts of the country that have long faced power challenges.

“The completion of this and other energy projects will help the nation meet one of the key goals of Vision 2050 to increase average electricity consumption to 3,000 kilowatt-hours per person per year,” Eng. Mramba noted.

He also encouraged greater participation from the private sector to complement government efforts. “Our aim is to build a nation powered by clean and affordable energy.

This goal can only be achieved through strong partnerships between the government, private investors, and development partners,” he added.

During the meeting, the Ministry presented updates on projects in natural gas and petroleum, clean cooking energy, electric power, and renewable energy all geared toward expanding energy access, reducing environmental impact, and improving people’s livelihoods.

For her part, Dr. Linda Ezekiel commended the strong collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and the National Planning Commission, saying the initiatives discussed are well aligned with the national development priorities.

“Vision 2050 aims to build a modern, competitive, and inclusive economy. The energy sector is central to this transformation, and we are pleased with the Ministry’s efforts to ensure energy continues to power Tanzania’s growth,” she said.

Both institutions pledged to continue working together in planning, implementing, and monitoring energy projects to ensure they contribute directly to national prosperity.

Through such partnerships, the government aims to make energy not just a service, but a driver of opportunity powering industries, communities, and homes across the nation as Tanzania moves steadily toward its Vision 2050 goals.
