Zanzibar’s Minister of State in the President’s Office for Finance and Planning, Dr. Saada Mkuya Salum, has called on all Tanzanians to actively participate in the upcoming October 29 elections while maintaining peace and respect for the law.
She cautioned that no insurance can shield individuals from the consequences of violence.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) headquarters in Dodoma, which also featured the presentation of the 2024 Insurance Market Performance Report, Dr. Mkuya said that safeguarding peace is a collective responsibility.
“Violence during elections not only disrupts communities but also puts lives at risk. Insurance cannot cover such losses. Every citizen has a duty to participate responsibly,” she stated.
Dr. Mkuya emphasized that peaceful engagement from casting a vote to promoting dialogue among neighbors ensures that election outcomes genuinely reflect the will of the people.
She urged Tanzanians to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and committed to dialogue and understanding.
The minister also highlighted the growing role of the insurance sector in supporting economic development, urging firms to strengthen regulation and consumer protection.
“A secure and well-managed insurance sector benefits all citizens,” she noted.
Dr. Mkuya’s message underlines the crucial role of ordinary Tanzanians in shaping a peaceful, stable, and inclusive electoral process.
Responsible participation, she said, is not just a right but a duty that contributes to national unity and security.
