Chalamila urges Dar es Salaam residents to vote peacefully on October 29

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has assured residents that the government has put in place all necessary measures to ensure peace and security during the October 29 elections.

Speaking during a meeting with special groups including food vendors, youth, and small-scale traders, Chalamila encouraged all registered voters in the region to turn out and exercise their democratic right without fear.

“In Dar es Salaam, we have 4,420,912 registered voters, and we assure you, Hon. Prime Minister, that nothing bad will happen to those who go out to vote. Everyone should come out peacefully and cast their votes,” Chalamila said.

He urged citizens to ignore groups spreading fear or misinformation online, noting that such cases would be handled by law enforcement authorities.

“Leave those few who are causing trouble on social media to the security organs; they will deal with them accordingly,” he said.

Chalamila added humorously that the authorities will ensure the communication networks remain stable on election day.

“Those who switch off their data, we will turn them on so the network works properly—they must see what is happening,” he said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The Regional Commissioner emphasized that Dar es Salaam residents should focus on participating peacefully in the elections, saying, “We want a calm process where everyone can vote freely and confidently. What we want, we want—it’s as simple as that.”
