DCB Commercial Bank has unveiled a new digital campaign dubbed “Ground”, designed to enable customers to open accounts directly from their mobile phones using only a national identification (NIDA) number.
Speaking during the launch in Dar es Salaam, a representative of the DCB Chief Executive Officer said the campaign seeks to promote financial inclusion by offering customers the ability to send money across all mobile networks and banks free of charge.
The initiative will also connect small-scale traders to DCB Lipa Fasta, a platform that facilitates instant digital payments.
“This service empowers traders to receive money digitally and get immediate confirmation messages. DCB was founded to serve low- and middle-income earners, and for this group, every shilling matters. As a people’s bank, we want our customers to retain the full value of their earnings,” he said.
DCB’s Head of Customer Service, Marketing and Digital Services, Geofrey Magugu, said the “Ground” campaign aligns with the ongoing Customer Service Week, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to improving accessibility and affordability of financial services.
“Our goal is not only to provide temporary relief during the campaign period but to make zero transaction charges a lasting feature. Customers will be able to transfer funds across all networks and banks without paying any fees. This initiative simplifies banking and empowers our customers to grow financially,” Magugu said.
He added that the new service reflects DCB’s broader strategy to enhance customer experience and address persistent barriers to digital banking adoption.
Longtime DCB customer Ms. Salma Athumani Mtulia shared her experience, noting that she joined the bank 14 years ago with a TZS 500,000 loan, which has since grown to over TZS 6 million.
She said the support has helped her expand her business, acquire land, buy motorcycles, and build a home.
“Even during financial hardships, DCB stood by me. Their services are reliable and accessible. I encourage fellow Tanzanians to join DCB because the bank truly cares about the success of its customers,” she said.
Through the “Ground” campaign, DCB Bank continues to strengthen its position as a community-focused financial institution, leveraging digital innovation to reach underserved groups and foster inclusive growth across Tanzania.
