The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has strengthened financial inclusion by training persons with disabilities in Kongwa on recognizing legitimate banknotes, understanding the central bank’s functions, and handling money safely.
The training, held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, brought together participants from different disability groups, including the visually impaired, hearing-impaired, people with physical disabilities, and persons with albinism.
Omary Lubuva, Chairperson of the Dodoma Regional Chapter of the Tanzania Federation of Disabled Peoples’ Organizations (SHIVYAWATA), said the training will help disabled entrepreneurs manage their finances better and enhance their contribution to the national economy.
“Kongwa has many persons with disabilities involved in entrepreneurship. They handle and receive money daily, and this training equips them to be more vigilant and fully participate in building our economy,” Lubuva said.
Participant Felister Lwiwa commended BoT for the initiative and called for similar programs across the country so more persons with disabilities can benefit and strengthen their economic activities.
BoT’s Public Relations Officer, George Helahela, noted that the training is part of a continuous effort to increase awareness about the central bank’s role and foster inclusive participation in Tanzania’s economy.
