Young Africans (Yanga) have underlined their growing stature in African football by booking a place in the CAF Champions League group stage with a commanding 2-0 win over Angola’s Wiliete in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.
The result completed a 5-0 aggregate triumph, underscoring Yanga’s dominance both home and away.
The match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium tested Yanga’s patience, with the first half ending goalless despite their clear control of possession.
However, the breakthrough came late. In the 86th minute, Ivorian forward Pacome Zouzoua broke the deadlock, rewarding the hosts for their relentless pressure.
Just two minutes later, Aziz Andambwile added the second goal, putting the contest beyond Wiliete’s reach and sending the stadium into celebration.
The aggregate scoreline reflects more than just victory; it demonstrates Yanga’s tactical discipline and attacking sharpness.
With a well-organized defense anchored by Dickson Job and Ibrahim Abdulla, and a creative midfield led by Mudathir Yahya, the Jangwani giants showed a balance of resilience and flair.
For Tanzanian football, Yanga’s progression is significant. It reinforces the country’s presence on the continental stage, following Simba SC’s consistent appearances in recent years.
Their qualification means local fans will once again witness high-level continental football in Dar es Salaam, while the club continues to raise its profile regionally and internationally.
