Defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) and newcomers Pamba Jiji will lock horns tomorrow at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in a Tanzania Mainland Premier League encounter, with both sides determined to walk away with maximum points.
Speaking ahead of the clash on Monday, September 23, Yanga head coach Romain Folz expressed confidence in his squad, noting that preparations for the tie were complete.
“Our preparations are 100 percent done. We have quality players and a deep squad, which allows me to rotate without losing balance. One player may feature today and another in the next match, but every member of the squad is important,” said Folz.
The French tactician emphasized that Yanga’s ambition this season is clear: to secure three points in every fixture and retain the NBC Premier League crown.
“This is our third competitive match of the season and it is very important. We had a strong pre-season that gave us the momentum we need. Yanga is a big club with big expectations, and our target is to win the title again,” he added.
Folz also cautioned his players to stay sharp, as he expects Pamba Jiji to provide a stern challenge. “We know we will face strong resistance. My players must remain focused and disciplined every minute they are on the pitch,” he stressed.
Yanga defender Frank Assinki echoed his coach’s sentiments, saying the players are fully motivated and ready to give their best.
“We have trained well since pre-season, and we are ready to put our preparations into practice. I urge our fans to come out in large numbers so we can begin the campaign with a convincing win,” Assinki said.
He added that the new signings have quickly settled into the squad and are eager to make an impact.
“As new players, we have been welcomed warmly, and we understand what Yanga stands for. Together with our teammates, we are prepared for tomorrow’s game. We invite the Wananchi to support us,” he added.
On the other side, Pamba Jiji head coach Francis Baraza played down any pressure, insisting his side is ready to enjoy the challenge of facing the league champions.
“We will play our game. I believe the fans in the stadium and those at home will enjoy the football. We are not under pressure we are simply focused on our performance,” said Baraza.
His player Kelvin Nashon was equally upbeat, saying Pamba Jiji have no fear heading into the fixture.
“We are not afraid of facing any team in this league. We have prepared well and are confident in our abilities,” he said.
Tomorrow’s clash will test Yanga’s determination to start their title defense strongly, while Pamba Jiji will be eager to make a statement against one of the country’s most successful clubs.
With both sides targeting all three points, fans can expect a fiercely contested battle at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
