The Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) says access to clean and safe water has improved in Dar es Salaam and Coast Region, with communities reporting steady progress in service delivery.
DAWASA Head of Communications, Ms. Everlasting Lyaro, toured parts of Ubungo and Ilala districts this week to assess the situation.
She said the authority’s mission remains to ensure every household within its service area has reliable water access.
“We have visited different neighborhoods today and seen that water services are improving. In some areas, the flow is still stabilizing, but overall, the progress is encouraging. Communities such as Kilungule A and B, Korogwe, Ziimbili, Ulongoni A, Mongo la Ndege, Kichangani, Kinyerezi, Buguruni Kisiwani, Ghana and Malapa are now receiving water more consistently,” she said.
Local leaders have welcomed the improvements. Mr. Kaini Kyejo, chairman of Kilungule A sub-ward, praised DAWASA’s swift intervention to restore services, saying water remains central to people’s livelihoods.
“My residents have started receiving water again. Although the pressure is not yet at full strength, they are confident it will stabilize soon,” said Kyejo.
Residents have also noticed changes. Ms. Alice Makamba from Mbezi Msakuzi explained that water was unavailable for two days, but DAWASA had shared timely updates on maintenance works at the Ruvu Upper Plant.
“We did not have water for two days, but we were informed through social media that repairs were underway. Services have now resumed, and although the pressure is still low, at least the supply is back,” she said.
DAWASA said it will continue monitoring neighborhoods and working with local communities to ensure reliable and sustainable water services.
