Tanzanian karate player Ramadhani Khamis Nassoro has been selected to represent the country at the World Karate Championship scheduled to take place in November this year in Hungary.
Khamis earned the opportunity after receiving a full sponsorship offer extended through a technical seminar held recently in Dar es Salaam. The seminar brought together national team athletes, clubs, coaches, referees, and judges, and was conducted by former world karate champion Shihan Tarabeih Ali.
The sponsorship package will cover travel, accommodation, meals, and local transport while in Hungary. This is seen as a major boost for Tanzania’s efforts to gain international recognition in karate.
Speaking after his selection, Khamis said he is determined to make the most of the opportunity and fly the national flag with pride.
“My goal is to represent Tanzania with discipline and ensure that I perform well in this world competition,” he said.
Shihan Tarabeih Ali, who also led the seminar, explained that Khamis was chosen in collaboration with the technical committee of the Tanzania Shotokan Karate Federation (TSKF). Ali added that the broader objective is to secure at least two players – one male and one female – for international sponsorship. While the male slot has been filled by Khamis, the female representative will be selected later.
TSKF Secretary General Jerome Mhagama said the federation is working with the government and other stakeholders to support additional athletes who may accompany Khamis. He noted that Tanzania has talented kata and kumite players who could gain valuable exposure from such global events.
“We are grateful for this sponsorship opportunity. It is a step forward for our sport, and we will continue engaging partners to expand participation,” Mhagama said.
Sports analysts see Khamis’ selection as a sign that karate is gaining traction in Tanzania. With international exposure and technical support, the country could nurture athletes capable of competing consistently on the world stage.
The World Karate Championship in Hungary will bring together top athletes from across the globe, offering Tanzania a rare opportunity to showcase its talent and strengthen its presence in martial arts.
