Tanzania’s Chaja scoops top prize at ClimateLaunchpad Africa finals

By Charles Mkoka

Tanzania has secured a historic victory on the continental stage after CHAJA Africa, an emerging energy technology start-up based in Dar es Salaam, won first place at the ClimateLaunchpad Africa Regional Finals.

The win, announced this week, positions the company among Africa’s most promising climate-tech innovators and secures a spot at the ClimateLaunchpad 2025 Global Finals to be held in Vienna, Austria.

Led by Chief Executive Officer Tony Godfrey and Norman Manzi (COO), CHAJA presented what the judges noted as a bold and scalable vision, delivering reliable, renewable, and efficient energy solutions that can transform access for communities and businesses across the continent.

The company’s victory follows its success in the national ClimateLaunchpad competition in Tanzania, which was organised by Anza Entrepreneurs, the official national lead for the programme.

According to Anza, the win underscores how local innovators are increasingly competing and thriving on both the local and international stage.

While details of its upcoming pitch for the Global Finals remain under wraps, CHAJA is known for exploring modular battery storage, smart charging networks, and clean mobility solutions, positioning itself as part of Africa’s next wave of green infrastructure ventures.

For Tanzania, the achievement is more than a trophy. It signals the growing maturity of the local climate-tech ecosystem and provides an opportunity to showcase innovation from Dar es Salaam before global investors, partners, and policymakers in Vienna next year.
