Tanzania will join the international community on September 27 to mark World Tourism Day, highlighting the tourism sector as a key driver of economic growth and social development.

The day, established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), recognizes tourism’s role in fostering cultural, social, and environmental progress.

This year’s theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, emphasizes tourism’s potential to generate innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional opportunities while promoting inclusivity and sustainability.

Tanzania is leveraging the day to showcase its tourism services and strengthen knowledge sharing among industry professionals.

The government is also promoting conservation of natural and cultural resources to ensure long-term sustainability.

Under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, efforts to expand sustainable tourism include national campaigns such as Tanzania the Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania, targeted infrastructure investments, and initiatives to involve local communities in tourism activities.

These measures aim to translate tourism growth into direct economic benefits for citizens and enhance the country’s global tourism profile.

Minister W. M. U. emphasized the strategic role of tourism in driving broader economic growth. He called on stakeholders to collaborate with the government to ensure that tourism expansion aligns with conservation priorities and stimulates other sectors of the economy.

By integrating innovation, entrepreneurship, and community participation, Tanzania seeks to position tourism as a catalyst for sustainable development.

World Tourism Day offers an opportunity to assess progress, share best practices, and reinforce the sector’s contribution to the national economy and social well-being.
