The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has held talks with the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to East Africa, MP Kate Asamor, at the House of Commons in London, focusing on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties.
The discussions explored opportunities for collaboration in priority sectors including energy, mining, the blue economy, green finance, digital innovation, and commercial agriculture.
Ambassador Kombo reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to enhancing the business and investment environment, pledging the government’s support for projects backed by UK institutions such as UK Export Finance (UKEF) and British International Investment (BII).
“Tanzania values its longstanding partnership with the United Kingdom and recognizes the vital role of investment in creating jobs, expanding trade, and advancing key sectors such as clean energy, critical minerals, and the blue economy,” he said.
Ms. Asamor welcomed Tanzania’s reforms to improve the investment climate and underscored Britain’s readiness to work closely on strategic projects.
She pointed to opportunities for expanding market access for Tanzanian agricultural exports, strengthening infrastructure projects in Zanzibar, and supporting green and digital initiatives.
The meeting also addressed preparations for Tanzania’s general election set for October 29, 2025. Ambassador Kombo highlighted that, for the first time, the polls will be managed by an independent electoral commission a step he said would enhance transparency and boost investor confidence.
Both sides agreed to intensify coordination through the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) and to establish a joint delivery team that will conduct quarterly reviews to ensure the timely implementation of commitments.
