Tanzania is set to administer its Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) to 1.17 million students starting tomorrow, the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) announced.
According to NECTA Executive Secretary Professor Said Mohamed, of the registered candidates, 535,138 (45.65%) are boys and 637,141 (54.35%) are girls.
Most students, approximately 93.35%, will take the exams in Kiswahili, while 6.65% will use English, reflecting their schools’ language of instruction.
The council has also made special arrangements for 4,679 students with disabilities. This includes 92 visually impaired, 1,551 with low vision, 1,079 hearing impaired, 448 with intellectual disabilities, and 1,509 with physical impairments.
“All critical preparations, including the distribution of exam papers and documentation, as well as accommodations for students with special needs, have been completed,” Prof. Mohamed said.
NECTA emphasized the importance of maintaining secure and fair examination environments. School administrators and supervisors are strictly advised against interfering in exam procedures, with the council warning that any violations could result in cancellation of exam centers.
The PSLE serves as a key benchmark in Tanzania’s education system, determining progression to secondary education.
