National League for Democracy (NLD) presidential candidate,Doyo Hassan Doyo, launched his campaign in Tanga on Thursday, outlining a leadership vision focused on patriotism, justice, and development.
Doyo said his decision to run for president was driven by personal conviction and a belief in his ability to provide accountable leadership. He pledged that an NLD government would be guided by the three principles as its foundation.
“We have reviewed six years of reports from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG), and none has reassured Tanzanians. A lack of patriotism has allowed public funds to be misused without accountability. My government will make patriotism a compulsory subject from primary school,” he said.
On agriculture, he pledged free supply of quality seeds, reliable markets for farmers, and improved rural roads to reduce post-harvest losses and exploitation by middlemen.
He added that the NLD would invest in fish processing facilities along the coast and purchase three industrial fishing vessels for the Indian Ocean to boost foreign exchange earnings and create jobs in coastal regions, including Tanga.
In social services, Doyo promised to strengthen the national health insurance scheme to guarantee full access to treatment and equip youth with skills for self-employment upon completing higher education.
He also announced plans to establish technology learning centers in every district council, describing innovation and digital skills as essential for Tanzania’s economic transformation.
On foreign policy, Doyo pledged continuity in Tanzania’s international relations while forming a government of national unity to enhance cohesion.
“We call upon all Tanzanians to uphold peace, unity, and solidarity. Without peace, there can be no development, no justice, and no cohesion. Our peace is the foundation of national progress,” he said.
The NLD campaign is expected to continue in Pangani, Mkinga, Muheza, Lushoto, Korogwe, and Handeni districts before heading to Manyara Region.
