Arusha. Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC) CPA Amos Makalla has commended the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) for its strong performance in managing conservation and boosting the tourism sector, saying the agency continues to safeguard resources vital to the country’s economy.
Mr. Makalla made the remarks yesterday during a working session with TANAPA management at Lake Manyara National Park in Mto wa Mbu, where he was briefed on operations by TANAPA Conservation Commissioner CPA Musa Nassoro Kuji, along with presentations from the heads of Arusha and Lake Manyara National Parks.
“I want to sincerely congratulate you for the way you are managing these conservation areas,” he said.
“TANAPA carries a huge responsibility to advance conservation and tourism by protecting and developing the natural attractions God has blessed this country with. You can count on my full cooperation in this effort.”he added
The RC stressed that national parks are protected areas established by law and must not be compromised by individuals acting out of selfish interests.
“Conservation must remain the top priority because tourism is its direct outcome. A tourist will only visit if there is something worth seeing,” he noted.
For his part, Mr. Kuji assured the RC that TANAPA remains fully committed to protecting and developing the nation’s parks, which he described as a cornerstone of Tanzania’s sustainable development.
He added that the sector has recorded remarkable growth under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration.
“Through initiatives such as the Royal Tour documentary and Amazing Tanzania, we have witnessed a major transformation in the tourism sector. The traditional distinction between high and low tourist seasons is disappearing, as visitor numbers remain high throughout the year,” he said.
Mr. Makalla’s visit to Lake Manyara was part of his wider working tour of Arusha Region, aimed at meeting institutions and stakeholders, encouraging public servants, and inspiring communities to recognize their role in strengthening both the regional and national economy.
