Civic United Front (CUF) presidential candidate Gombo Samandito Gombo has pledged to introduce monthly pensions for all Tanzanians aged 60 and above, signaling a shift toward expanded social security programs under a potential CUF administration.
Speaking at a public rally in Sikonge District, Gombo highlighted the economic and social neglect of Tanzania’s nearly three million elderly citizens.
“Hospitals may have designated desks for the elderly, but they are often empty. Under CUF, every citizen aged 60 and above will receive a monthly allowance in recognition of their service,” he said.
Gombo also outlined plans to leverage natural resources for economic purposes, allowing protected forests to support livestock grazing while prohibiting residential construction.
The policy aims to balance environmental preservation with economic productivity.
Youth engagement, particularly among motorcycle taxi operators known locally as bodaboda riders was another focus of Gombo’s speech.
He promised regulatory reforms to allow these operators to work freely and safely, emphasizing their contribution to the informal economy.
“Bodaboda riders will operate in peace. The youth are central to Tanzania’s economic future,” he said.
CUF vice-presidential candidate Husna Mohamed Abdallah, speaking in Kikungu Village, Chabutwa Ward, emphasized the party’s broader economic agenda, which includes job creation, increasing food production, and strengthening national economic resilience.
CUF’s campaign platform underscores a focus on social protection for vulnerable populations and the economic empowerment of youth, signaling potential policy shifts in social welfare and labor regulation if the party were to take office.
