The Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) is taking advantage of the ongoing Inter-Ministerial Games (SHIMIWI) in Mwanza to bring services closer to citizens, offering real-time business registrations and education on formalization.

Since the games kicked off on September 1 at CCM Kirumba grounds, the agency has delivered more than 100 services, including company and business name registrations, trademark applications, issuance of Class A business licenses, and post-registration services. Nearly 60 people have also received education on business formalization.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, who visited the BRELA pavilion before officially opening the games on Sunday, applauded the initiative, describing it as a model of how government institutions can extend services beyond offices.

“BRELA is doing an excellent job reminding us, as public servants, that life continues even after government service. One does not need to wait for retirement to start a business it is important to participate in economic activities alongside our daily responsibilities,” Dr. Biteko said after presenting a certificate to a participant who registered on the spot.

Representing BRELA’s Chief Executive Officer, Director of Intellectual Property, Ms. Loy Mhando, said the agency views sports as a powerful avenue for engaging citizens.

She noted that outreach efforts have gone beyond the games, with awareness campaigns held at Gandhi Hall during a cake exhibition and at Mwanza’s Central Market.

“This year alone, we have registered one company, 19 business names, six trademarks, and issued 11 Class A business licenses at our pavilion here in Mwanza,” Ms. Mhando said.

“Our goal is to make services fast, transparent, and accessible to all Tanzanians.”he added

This is the second consecutive year BRELA has participated in SHIMIWI, following its successful debut in Morogoro in 2024.

The 2025 games bring together ministries, departments, and government agencies, and will run until September 16.
