Arusha’s new stadium is taking shape steadily, with officials assuring that it will be ready ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
Arusha Regional Commissioner, Amos Makalla, inspected the site in Olmot Ward today and said the government-funded project, worth 340 billion/-, is progressing as planned.
During the inspection, Makalla met with department heads overseeing water, energy, road, and communication infrastructure.
They agreed to establish a full-time technical task force on-site to fast-track supporting facilities under an emergency strategic plan.
Makalla hailed President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s efforts, noting the stadium will boost sports tourism, increase financial activity, and grow the regional economy.
“We assure the President the project will meet its July 2026 completion target,” he said.
Engineer Denice Benito Mtemi, representing contractor China Railway Construction, said the project is 60 percent complete.
The stadium will feature natural grass pitches, four international-standard changing rooms, and training facilities. She thanked the government for timely funding, which has kept the project on schedule.
The stadium, set to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, will give Tanzanians the chance to enjoy major continental football events on home soil. Tanzania will co-host the 2027 AFCON with Kenya and Uganda.
