Arusha gets water supply boost as daily production hits 200 million litres under Samia

Arusha. Water supply in Arusha has received a major boost following the completion of a mega project worth Sh520 billion under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration.

The project has increased daily water production from 40 million litres to 200 million litres — a fivefold rise equivalent to more than 400 percent. Officials say the additional supply will guarantee reliable access to clean water for households, businesses, schools, and hospitals across the city.

For decades, Arusha residents grappled with recurring water shortages that disrupted social and economic activities.

The new capacity is expected to ease that burden significantly, reducing household struggles, cutting costs for businesses, and improving service delivery in critical sectors such as education and healthcare.

Urban planners view the development as a turning point for the city’s growth.

With a stable water supply, Arusha is poised to attract more investment, expand its hospitality industry, and strengthen its role as a regional hub.

Local leaders have welcomed the project, describing it as a long-awaited intervention that will improve livelihoods and raise productivity.
