The Tanzania Government and Health Workers’ Union (TUGHE), under the leadership of its National Women’s Committee Chairperson, Cde. Catherine Katele, has joined a two-day capacity-building program for women leaders in Kagera Region.

The training, organized by PSI Tanzania, commenced on Tuesday, August 27, and was officially opened by the Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary for Kagera, Mr. Mbwai Biseko. It brought together members of TUGHE Women’s Committees from across the region.

The program focused on equipping participants with skills in areas such as social inclusion, workplace health and safety, and social security benefits.

These topics are central to advancing women’s participation and strengthening their role in safeguarding workers’ welfare.

Speaking at the event, Cde. Katele said the initiative demonstrates the value of investing in women leaders within the trade union movement.

“When women leaders are empowered with knowledge and practical skills, they are better positioned to address workplace challenges and champion the rights of workers,” she noted.

The training also served as a platform for exchanging experiences and building stronger networks among women leaders, with the ultimate goal of fostering safe, inclusive, and fair working environments.
