The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has called on farmers and fishers in Zanzibar to make informed decisions by utilizing weather forecasts and climate advisories to enhance productivity and income generation.
The call was made during the ongoing Nane Nane 2025 agricultural exhibitions taking place at Dole Kizimbani Grounds in Zanzibar, where various stakeholders are showcasing innovations and promoting climate-smart practices in agriculture.
TMA Zanzibar Director, Mr. Masoud Makame Faki, told reporters that weather information is a critical tool for modern farming and fishing. He urged communities to routinely follow daily forecasts, seasonal predictions, and early warnings issued by the Authority.
“A farmer cannot accumulate wealth or increase earnings without integrating weather data into their planning,” he said.
“These advisories are available and accessible farmers and fishers simply need to use them to reduce risks and increase efficiency.”he added
Mr. Faki noted that TMA is working closely with local authorities and media outlets to ensure timely dissemination of weather alerts, particularly in light of the increasing frequency of extreme weather events.
This year’s Nane Nane theme, “Agriculture is Wealth: Preserve Peace, Farm Creatively”, underscores the importance of innovation and resilience in agricultural practices, particularly in the face of climate variability.
TMA’s participation in the exhibition aims to raise awareness among stakeholders on the role of meteorological services in achieving food security and sustainable livelihoods.
