Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has revoked the appointment of Humphrey Polepole as the country’s ambassador to Cuba and stripped him of his diplomatic status, according to an official government notice.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation said in a statement on Tuesday that the decision, effective July 16, was communicated through a letter from Chief Secretary Dr Moses Kusiluka.
The President also terminated Polepole’s employment in the public service “in the interest of the public,” exercising her powers under the Public Service Act.
No further reasons were provided for the dismissal.
Polepole, a former ruling party ideology and publicity secretary, was appointed ambassador in 2021. He previously served as a Member of Parliament and held several senior political roles within the government and the CCM party.
