Tanzania and India are set to deepen their cooperation in the education sector, with a renewed focus on strategic areas such as nuclear energy, medical sciences, and data science.

This commitment was highlighted during a meeting between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Carolyne Nombo, and the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, Mr. Bishwadip Dey, held in Dodoma on Wednesday.

Prof. Nombo emphasized the critical importance of investing in high-impact fields to accelerate national development. She noted that India’s scholarship support in specialized disciplines continues to play a pivotal role in developing Tanzania’s human capital.

“These scholarships provide our young people with opportunities to access world-class education in areas that are vital to the country’s growth and competitiveness,” she said.

The two officials also discussed expanding technical and vocational training opportunities for Tanzanians in India. Prof. Nombo stressed that practical training would ensure a steady pipeline of skilled professionals ready to meet the demands of the modern economy.

“The fast pace of technological change requires us to prepare a workforce that is not only educated but equipped with globally relevant skills,” she added.

Mr. Dey commended Tanzania’s ongoing investments in education infrastructure, stating that India would remain a steadfast partner in supporting the country’s educational ambitions.

“We appreciate Tanzania’s commitment to building strong foundations in education. India is ready to support more initiatives that empower Tanzanian youth and promote innovation,” he said.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Prof. Daniel Mushi, expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its continued cooperation, particularly in ensuring Tanzanians gain access to quality and advanced education.

The meeting comes amid growing bilateral cooperation between the two countries, with India playing a leading role in supporting capacity-building programs in Tanzania through scholarships, training, and technical exchange.
