The governments of Singapore and Tanzania have agreed to deepen economic and development cooperation in sectors including port operations, tourism, finance, transportation, trade and investment, education, and agriculture, aiming to boost national development and improve citizens’ livelihoods.

The agreement, to be implemented through the Singapore Cooperation Program, was reached during talks on August 28, 2025, between Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, in Singapore.

As an initial step, both countries plan to finalize and sign a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, a move expected to attract investment and expand trade between the two nations.

“Singapore and Tanzania are strategically located gateways for trade and investment. Cooperation between our countries can open markets in more than 30 countries across Africa and Asia,” said Minister Balakrishnan.

Minister Kombo emphasized that Tanzania will continue creating a safe and business-friendly environment while focusing on sectors that directly affect citizens’ daily lives, including water, energy, housing, food, finance, education, and technology-driven industries.

Minister Balakrishnan also pledged to increase education and training opportunities for Tanzanian youth, particularly in technology and innovation, to equip them for job market competition and entrepreneurship.

The programs under the Singapore Cooperation Program will include long-term and short-term training, technical courses, and experience exchange programs, covering strategic areas such as the digital economy, project management, renewable energy, and entrepreneurship.

Over the past 20 years, Tanzania has attracted 32 investors from Singapore, whose investments exceed USD 500 million and have created jobs for more than 3,000 Tanzanians.
