Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged all record keepers across Tanzania to uphold professional ethics, maintain integrity, and safeguard the confidentiality of all records, noting that such documents are vital for national security and the country’s development.
The call came on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, during the opening of the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Tanzania Records and Archives Management Professionals Association (TRAMPA) at the Diamond Jubilee Conference Hall in Dar es Salaam.
“Proper management of records is the backbone of accountability, history, and good governance. Without well-maintained records, our nation risks information loss, delayed decisions, and setbacks in development,” the Prime Minister said.
He stressed that TRAMPA plays a critical role in ensuring government and private institutional records are professionally managed and securely preserved.
He called on the association to continue promoting accountability, strengthening professional skills, and providing training and guidelines to ensure records are handled with the highest levels of confidentiality, accuracy, and security.
The Prime Minister also directed all public institutions that have not yet adopted the e-Office system to implement it immediately. He said the government has invested in digital platforms to reduce paper use, accelerate communication, and protect sensitive information.
“Through e-Office, ministries, departments, agencies, and other institutions are empowered with modern digital systems that improve access to records, enhance transparency, and reduce service delays,” he added.
He also highlighted the government’s commitment to public servants, noting that the Sixth Phase Government has cleared salary arrears worth TZS 252.76 billion for 150,647 workers and TZS 33.29 billion for 10,022 retirees.
George Simbachanwene, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, said the government continues to create jobs for record management professionals.
“In 2024-2025, we recruited 965 new staff, promoted 1,237, re-categorized 59, and paid TZS 204.6 million in arrears,” he said.
Zanzibar’s Minister for Public Service, Haroun Ali Suleiman, praised TRAMPA members for safeguarding office confidentiality and noted the government is constructing a modern records management facility to support their work.
Earlier, TRAMPA Chairperson Devota Mrope commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her support to public servants, including the records management cadre, noting her efforts in creating jobs and addressing sector challenges.
During the meeting, TRAMPA also presented President Samia with an ambulance, which she will allocate for healthcare services.
