JKT Queens set to make history with CECAFA win abroad

By Victoria Godfrey

JKT Queens are determined to make history in the CECAFA Women’s Championship by winning the trophy outside Tanzania, as the tournament is scheduled from September 4 to 16 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The team is currently holding an intensive training camp in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region, to prepare and fine-tune their squad ahead of the competition.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, JKT Queens’ Media Officer Masau Bwire said the club is the only Tanzanian team with a record of winning the CECAFA Cup abroad a milestone no other local team has achieved.

“We are focused and working hard to achieve our goal of claiming the trophy again while playing away from home,” Bwire said.

He added that the coaching staff is preparing the team to reach peak performance, including arranging friendly matches to assess the squad, identify weaknesses, and implement improvements before departing for Kenya.

The team has also strengthened its lineup by adding three new players to enhance competitiveness and ensure readiness for the upcoming season.

The CECAFA Women’s Championship started in 2021 in Kenya, with Kenya’s Viga Queens winning the inaugural title.

The 2022 edition, held in Tanzania, saw Simba Queens crowned champions, while JKT Queens won the 2023 tournament in Uganda.

In 2024, Ethiopia’s CBE lifted the trophy, and this year’s edition returns to Kenya, where JKT Queens aim to add another historic victory.
