The Ministry of Health has been recognized for outstanding performance after its Afya Call Centre (119) won the award for Best Customer Service Centre in East Africa.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Grace Magembe, received the award on Tuesday in Dodoma. The accolade was originally presented on August 12, 2025, by the Global Youth Empowerment Institute during the East Africa Youth Business and Investment Expo held in Zanzibar.
During a meeting with directors and heads of departments, Acting Director of Preventive Services, Dr. Otilia Gowelle, handed over the award to Dr. Magembe as part of discussions on strengthening the country’s health services.
The award highlights the Afya Call Centre’s role in transforming digital health service delivery by offering health education, monitoring disease outbreaks, and ensuring the public has access to reliable health information.
Officials said the recognition reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to leverage technology in improving public health, especially in reaching citizens with accurate and timely information.
