Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has urged parents and guardians across the country to prioritize enrolling their children in technical and vocational training programmes to equip them with practical skills needed for employment and self-reliance.
Speaking after inspecting learning workshops at the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) centre in Ruangwa District, Lindi Region, the Premier emphasised the government's continued commitment to expanding youth access to quality skills training through VETA and the Prime Minister’s Office.
“The government is determined to ensure Tanzanian youth are equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s competitive job market. These training programmes empower young people to either secure employment or establish their own businesses, which is a major step forward for their families and the nation at large,” said Majaliwa.
He added that significant investment has gone into strengthening VETA infrastructure and coordinating modern, demand-driven training curricula, aligned with the country’s development agenda.
During his visit, the Prime Minister spoke with several students and expressed satisfaction with the impact of the programmes, noting that the government’s efforts were already bearing fruit.
Acting Principal of VETA Ruangwa, Mr. Mohamed Salum, said the college continues to improve its services with a view to expanding course offerings in line with labour market needs.
“We are working on introducing new disciplines and upgrading our facilities with modern training equipment to ensure our graduates are competitive,” he said.
One of the trainees, Mr. Maganga Salum, who is enrolled under a skills programme coordinated by the Prime Minister’s Office, said the training has been transformative.
“Before joining, I had no skills. Today, I’m confident in my ability to work as a technician and plan to start my own business once I graduate,” he said. “We are well-prepared and eager to contribute.”
In addition to inspecting the VETA training facilities, Majaliwa visited the construction site for a new hostel intended to accommodate players from Namungo Football Club.
He also toured the Kassim Majaliwa Sports Stadium in Ruangwa, where preparations are underway to install seating in the stands.
The Premier’s visit highlights the government’s multi-sectoral approach to youth development, combining education, sports, and infrastructure to build a more resilient and empowered generation.
