The Ministry of Energy has highlighted major strides in the implementation of seven flagship energy projects, underscoring Tanzania’s commitment to energy security and economic growth.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Eng. Felchesmi Mramba, said the projects form part of 17 national strategic undertakings being rolled out across the country.

He was speaking on August 17, 2025, during the launch of the Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE) Program, which supports communities along the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) corridor.

According to him, the projects include the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), the 2,115MW Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project, oil exploration initiatives, the Rumakali and Ruhudji hydropower projects, and oil exploration at Mnazi Bay North.

He explained that the JNHPP has been completed and is already feeding electricity into the national grid, marking a historic milestone in the country’s efforts to expand reliable power supply.

Meanwhile, the EACOP project has reached 65 percent completion, with the Government of Tanzania injecting TZS 1.12 trillion as part of its equity contribution.

“The LNG project is at its final stages, while feasibility studies for the Ruhudji and Rumakali hydropower projects have already been completed,” Mramba noted.

The Permanent Secretary added that about 200 Tanzanian companies have secured contracts under EACOP, with payments expected to amount to TZS 1.325 trillion.

He stressed that this reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring local participation in strategic investments.

Beyond economic benefits, Mramba underscored the social dividends of the projects, saying communities along the EACOP route will be connected to electricity through parallel power supply initiatives.

“These projects are shaping the country’s energy landscape, driving industrialisation, creating jobs, and improving livelihoods,” he said.
