The Ministry of Energy and its affiliated institutions are actively participating in the ongoing Nane Nane International Agricultural Exhibition at Nzuguni Grounds in Dodoma, which officially began on August 1, 2025.
The event, themed “Elect Good Leaders for Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries 2025,” was inaugurated by Vice President Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango and brings together key stakeholders to promote national development through innovation, leadership, and sectoral collaboration.
At the exhibition, the Ministry is showcasing major achievements in the energy sector, including the near-completion of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), which is set to generate 2,115 megawatts of electricity and play a transformative role in powering the economy.
Experts are also highlighting ongoing efforts under the Rural Electrification Programme, which continues to expand electricity access to underserved and remote communities, supporting rural livelihoods and productivity.
In addition to infrastructure achievements, the Ministry is using the platform to raise public awareness about the National Strategy for Clean Cooking Energy.
This strategy aims to reduce reliance on traditional fuels such as charcoal and firewood by promoting the use of cleaner and more sustainable alternatives, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electricity, and improved cookstoves.
The move supports Tanzania’s broader commitments to environmental sustainability, public health, and energy efficiency.
Looking ahead to the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the Ministry has outlined plans to extend electricity distribution to more sub-villages across the country and accelerate the implementation of clean energy solutions.
These efforts are expected to enhance quality of life, spur local economic activities, and reduce environmental degradation caused by unsustainable fuel use.
Institutions under the Ministry participating in the exhibition include the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA), Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Rural Energy Agency (REA), Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA), and Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC).
Their joint presence reflects the Ministry’s integrated approach to advancing Tanzania’s energy transition, supporting the agricultural sector, and contributing to the country’s long-term development agenda, including Vision 2050.
