Chumi urges tech adoption to drive agricultural transformation

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, has called for greater use of modern technology to enhance productivity and sustainability in Tanzania’s agriculture sector.

Speaking on behalf of Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo during a visit to the Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition in Dodoma, Mr. Chumi underscored the strategic role of innovation in modernizing farming, livestock, and fisheries.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of innovation and participation at the event, noting strong representation from entrepreneurs, research institutions, and international stakeholders.

“These exhibitions are not just about showcasing products. They are strategic platforms for advancing economic diplomacy and connecting Tanzanian technologies to global markets,” he said.

Mr. Chumi emphasized the need to use such events to exchange knowledge, promote scalable innovations, and address systemic challenges—particularly access to capital, market linkages, and government investment in productive sectors.

He linked these discussions to the broader national agenda of industrialization and inclusive economic development through value-added agriculture.

Held annually from August 1–8, the Nane Nane exhibition gathers stakeholders from agriculture, livestock, and fisheries to showcase solutions and discuss sectoral growth.

The 2025 theme, “Elect Accountable Leaders for Sustainable Development in Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries,” highlights the intersection of governance and long-term sectoral transformation.
