The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has opened applications for 10 fully funded scholarships under the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund for the 2025/26 academic year. The scholarships are intended to support outstanding Tanzanian students in fields that drive national development.
Established in 2009 to honour Tanzania’s founding president, Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, the Fund focuses on students pursuing science, mathematics, economics, information technology, accounting, and finance.
Seven scholarships are for undergraduate studies, while three are for master’s degree programmes. The undergraduate awards are divided into two groups.
The first is for female students who passed the 2025 Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with Division One in science or mathematics, and who have secured admission in these fields at a recognised Tanzanian university.
The second group is open to male and female students who passed ACSEE with Division One in science, mathematics, economics, commerce, or accounting, and who have been admitted to full-time programmes in these areas.
Master’s degree applicants must be Tanzanian citizens aged 35 or below with a minimum GPA of 4.0 from a recognised university. They must be admitted to a full-time master’s programme in one of the approved fields.
Applicants should download and complete the application form from the BoT website. The form and all required documents must be scanned and submitted online to the Chairperson of the Scholarship Fund at the BoT Sub-Head Office in Dar es Salaam.
The deadline is August 22, 2025, at 5 pm. Printed forms are also available at BoT branches across Dodoma, Arusha, Zanzibar, Mwanza, Mbeya, and Mtwara.
The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, meals, stationery, practical training, and any other faculty requirements. Each recipient will also receive a new laptop.
BoT Governor Emmanuel M. Tutuba said the Fund embodies Nyerere’s vision of education as a tool for national transformation. He said it is a way to invest in Tanzania’s brightest minds and secure the country’s future.
The Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund remains one of Tanzania’s most prestigious academic awards and highlights BoT’s commitment to supporting education and development.
