Motorcycle taxi operators, popularly known as boda bodas, have been granted a tax waiver under the 2025 Finance Act, while owners of Guta vehicles will enjoy reduced annual fees.
CPA Paul Walalaze, Education Manager for Taxpayers at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), said boda boda owners, who previously paid TZS 65,000 per year, are now exempt from this tax.
Meanwhile, Guta owners will pay TZS 120,000 annually, down from TZS 250,000.
Speaking on August 18, 2025, during a seminar on the 2025/2026 Finance Act amendments in Mpanda, CPA Walalaze urged vehicle owners to ensure legal ownership is properly transferred and registered in their names.
He noted that the tax waiver and reduction aim to encourage citizens to actively participate in economic activities, empowering them to improve their personal financial status.
