Ninety-four athletes are set to compete tomorrow in the Nakimbia trial races at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with participants drawn from Mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar, and invited runners from Kenya and Ethiopia.
The Vice President of the Tanzania Athletics Federation (RT), Advocate Jackson Ndaweka, said preparations are complete, with the technical committee finalizing all logistics and the competition schedule.
“Everything is ready. The stadium facilities are in excellent condition, and the technical arrangements have been finalized. We are now waiting for the athletes to take the field, and we are confident the trials will meet our expectations,” he said.
Ndaweka emphasized that the Nakimbia trials are designed to give athletes a platform to compete at a high level and meet performance standards recognized by World Athletics. Successful athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for upcoming international events.
The program will feature both track and field events, including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10,000m races, as well as high jump, javelin throw, and shot put.
“These trials are not only about competition but also about building a pathway for our athletes to showcase their talent and represent Tanzania on the global stage,” Ndaweka added.
