Dodoma Region has recorded significant progress in adult and non-formal education, with 571 students benefiting from the government’s MEMKWA empowerment programs.

The initiative provides alternative pathways for Tanzanians who missed out on formal education, enabling them to acquire essential literacy and life skills.

Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule, highlighted the achievements during the Adult and Non-Formal Education Week celebrations held on August 18, 2025, at Puma Stadium in Kondoa District.

“These programs have transformed the lives of Tanzanians, giving them the tools to read, write, and develop key skills. Without MEMKWA, these 571 students would not have had this opportunity. Under MASAFA, 355 students have gained literacy skills, IPOSA has reached 240 students, and the MKEJA program has benefited 1,320 learners,” she said.

RC Senyamule emphasized that Dodoma has invested in inclusive learning environments that cater to all groups, including learners with special needs, and the government continues to channel resources into educational infrastructure through various development projects.

Kondoa District Commissioner,Fatma Nyangasa, added that, on average, 1,000 students benefit annually from these programs.

She noted that the initiative aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of ensuring that every child, particularly girls, has access to education and the opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Dodoma Regional Education Officer, Mr. Vicent Kayombo, explained that the region actively coordinates adult and non-formal education through the Middle Ground Between Education and Society (MKEJA) framework.

Learners gain knowledge and practical skills in specially designed classrooms within primary and secondary schools.

The Adult and Non-Formal Education Week, initiated by an international organization focused on education, science, and culture, aims to raise awareness about the importance of adult education.

Dodoma Region marks the event annually in a selected district, highlighting the government’s commitment to lifelong learning.
