Ubungo Football Club has emerged victorious in the Azam Amputee Football Tournament, which concluded yesterday at the Azam Complex Stadium in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.
In a thrilling final, Ubungo defeated Sauti Para Sports 2-1 to clinch the coveted title. Sauti Para Sports settled for second place, while Black Eagle secured third position.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Ubungo’s Head Coach, Athumani Lubandame, attributed their success to the extensive experience of his players in both domestic and international competitions, as well as their strict adherence to tactical instructions.
“Our players have previously competed in the 2022 Amputee World Cup, which greatly contributed to their composure and performance,” Lubandame noted.
He added, “Although our opponents took the lead early in the match, we regrouped and, with determination and faith, staged a comeback to claim the championship.”
Lubandame revealed plans to officially present the trophy to the Ubungo District Commissioner, recognizing the team’s efforts and promoting inclusivity for athletes with disabilities.
Looking ahead, the coach confirmed that Ubungo will intensify training sessions to prepare for future tournaments.
The tournament featured teams from across Tanzania, including Arusha Warriors, Black Eagle, Sauti Para Sports, Songwe, Ubungo, Dar es Salaam District, Magharibi (Zanzibar), and Pugu Para.
