The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has announced a historic achievement in tax collection for the 2024/25 fiscal year, successfully gathering TZS 32.26 trillion.
This marks 103.9 percent of the set target of TZS 31.05 trillion and reflects a remarkable growth of 16.7 percent compared to TZS 27.64 trillion collected in the previous year.
The authority consistently exceeded monthly targets throughout the year, with the highest single-month collection of TZS 3.58 trillion recorded in December 2024.
This steady performance culminated in a record average monthly collection of TZS 2.69 trillion the highest in TRA’s history.
The fourth quarter alone saw collections of TZS 8.22 trillion, representing 104.8 percent of the quarterly target and a 15.8 percent increase over the same period last year.
TRA attributes this success to strong cooperation with taxpayers, who have demonstrated commitment by voluntarily fulfilling their tax obligations.
The authority reaffirmed its pledge to enhance a friendly business environment, provide continuous tax education, and maintain fairness in tax administration.
Leadership from President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has also been instrumental, with initiatives including presidential awards for exemplary taxpayers, the establishment of a tax reform feedback commission, recruitment of new staff, and her active participation in inaugurating new TRA offices.
The improved efficiency and discipline among TRA staff have further boosted collections. Adoption of modern systems such as TANCIS and IDRAS, extended service hours, and responsive taxpayer engagement have all contributed to enhanced revenue mobilization.
Additionally, growth in economic activities, improved port and customs operations, and strengthened partnerships with Authorized Economic Operators (AEOs) have underpinned the positive trends.
Looking ahead, TRA aims to collect TZS 36.066 trillion in the 2025/26 fiscal year. The authority plans to fully implement the Internal Domestic Revenue Automation System (IDRAS), deepen collaboration with business leaders and tax stakeholders, work closely with the presidential tax reform team, and intensify monitoring of staff performance and ethics.
On behalf of its Board, management, and staff, TRA extends heartfelt gratitude to all taxpayers for their voluntary compliance.
The authority also expresses sincere appreciation to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for her unwavering leadership and efforts to foster a culture of voluntary tax payment, which remains vital for Tanzania’s continued development.
