Amandus Jordan Tembo, widely known as Toronto, is among five aspirants shortlisted by Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to contest for the Songea Urban parliamentary seat in the upcoming October 2025 General Election.
The announcement was made on July 29, 2025, by CCM’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Amos Makala, following internal vetting and interviews conducted by the ruling party.
Mr. Tembo, 35, is a political newcomer but has gained local recognition through his grassroots engagement and development efforts.
A graduate of the University of Toronto in Canada where he earned the nickname Toronto he has returned to his hometown with a clear intent to serve and uplift his community.
In recent months, he has made notable contributions by financing the construction of CCM offices in Subira and Bombambili wards.
The gesture has been well-received by local party members and leaders, who view it as a sign of his dedication to the party and the people.
Mr. Tembo has built his political message around education, healthcare, and youth employment. He is also a strong advocate for increased youth participation in politics, calling for a new generation of ethical and proactive leaders.
While CCM is yet to announce its final candidate for the Songea Urban seat, Mr. Tembo’s inclusion in the shortlist signals growing support within the party’s grassroots network in Ruvuma Region.
The next phase of internal assessments is expected to further determine who will carry the party’s flag in the tightly contested urban constituency.
