The Tanzania Fertilizer Regulatory Authority (TFRA) is inviting farmers, agro-dealers, and the general public to visit its pavilion at the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Saba Saba, taking place at the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking at the TFRA pavilion, Claudia Morandi, the Subsidized Fertilizer Representative for Dar es Salaam Region, said the government’s fertilizer subsidy programme is designed to ease production costs for farmers by enabling them to access quality fertilizer at affordable prices through a structured registration system.

“Our goal is to empower farmers with the right information and tools to increase productivity. We are offering on-site services including registration and updating of farmers’ details in the subsidy input system,” said Morandi.

She explained that farmers wishing to register or update their information are required to present a valid National Identification Card (NIDA) or voter’s ID.

Upon successful registration, each farmer is issued a unique identification number which is then used to purchase subsidized fertilizer and seeds from accredited agro-dealers recognized by TFRA and the Tanzania Agricultural Seeds Agency.

“This system is not only meant to streamline access to inputs but also to ensure that the subsidy reaches genuine farmers. We are also providing training on the proper use of fertilizers to improve crop yields, ensure soil health, and protect the environment,” she added.

TFRA is also using the trade fair as a platform to raise public awareness about its role in regulating the quality of fertilizers in the country.

Oscar Comred, a Laboratory Specialist from TFRA, encouraged visitors to engage with technical staff to learn how the Authority monitors fertilizer quality through scientific analysis.

“Our national fertilizer laboratory tests samples from both local and international manufacturers, traders, research institutions, and farmers to ensure that the fertilizers meet both national and global standards,” Comred said.

He noted that the laboratory also performs spot-checks on fertilizers available in the market to verify their compliance with import and registration approvals issued by the Authority.

TFRA officials will continue offering services and education at their pavilion until the fair’s conclusion on July 13, 2025.

The public, particularly farmers, are encouraged to visit the pavilion to enhance their understanding of proper fertilizer use, as part of broader efforts to promote sustainable agricultural growth and economic development.
