Tanzania’s Sixth Phase Government, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has allocated a total of TZS 5.7 billion to strengthen education infrastructure in Siha District, Kilimanjaro Region.
The funding is part of the ongoing Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP), which aims to expand access to quality secondary education nationwide.
A significant portion of the funds TZS 4.45 billion has been channelled into the construction of critical infrastructure at the Kilimanjaro Regional Girls’ Secondary School.
The institution, which has already begun operations, is undergoing final construction works to fully complete its facilities.
According to project details, TZS 352.5 million was used to complete 12 classrooms, three teachers' offices and three teachers' toilet units.
Another TZS 65.2 million went towards finishing a three-bedroom teachers’ house, while the school’s sick bay was completed at a cost of TZS 61.4 million.
An additional TZS 194.1 million was allocated to finalise the administration building, and TZS 104.6 million supported the completion of a semi-detached (2-in-1) teachers’ residence.
To strengthen the school’s science education capacity, four science laboratories covering Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Geography were completed with an investment of TZS 225.1 million. Construction of 16 student toilet pits cost TZS 50.9 million, while TZS 1.1 billion was used to complete eight student dormitories. The dining hall was constructed at a cost of TZS 1.09 billion.
Other completed facilities include two incinerators, built at a cost of TZS 7.2 million, and nine wastewater pits constructed for TZS 59.6 million.
In a second SEQUIP financing phase, the government released an additional TZS 1.1 billion to support the construction of 10 new classrooms, four dormitories, three staff houses, an ICT room and a library at the same institution.
In parallel, the government has committed TZS 1.6 billion towards a new vocational secondary school currently under construction in Roseline Village, Ndumeti Ward, also in Siha District.
This vocational school will include classrooms, a library, administrative offices, Biology and Chemistry labs, an ICT room, three dormitories, an eight-pit toilet block, a dining hall, a masonry and electrical workshop, and teacher housing.
These major investments underscore President Samia’s administration’s focus on expanding learning opportunities and improving infrastructure, particularly for girls and students pursuing vocational training in underserved areas.
