The Government of Tanzania and the Kingdom of Belgium have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance development cooperation aimed at promoting inclusive growth and sustainable development.
This follows a high-level meeting held in Dar es Salaam between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba, and the Belgian Ambassador to Tanzania, Peter Huyghebaert.
The talks focused on expanding collaboration in key sectors aligned with Tanzania’s national priorities, including youth employment, social protection, and economic empowerment.
Held at the Ministry’s Sub-Offices, the meeting was also attended by senior officials from both governments.
They included Assistant Commissioner for External Finance, Mr. Melckzedeck Mbise, Resident Representative of the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel), Mr. Koenraad Goekint, and Head of Belgian Cooperation, Ms. Fanny Heylen.
Representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities were also present.
Dr. Mwamba emphasized the Government’s appreciation for Belgium’s continued support, noting that development cooperation between the two countries has yielded tangible benefits, particularly in areas of capacity building, technical support, and youth inclusion.
“We value Belgium’s longstanding partnership and its contribution to Tanzania’s development agenda. We look forward to scaling up cooperation to address emerging challenges and accelerate progress toward our Vision 2050 goals,” said Dr. Mwamba.
Ambassador Huyghebaert expressed Belgium’s readiness to strengthen its engagement with Tanzania, especially through development programs that improve the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
“Belgium is committed to supporting inclusive initiatives that create opportunities for young people and vulnerable communities. Our cooperation with Tanzania remains a priority,” he stated.
The meeting highlighted shared ambitions to deepen cooperation through results-driven projects that address the real needs of citizens.
Both sides agreed to explore new avenues for collaboration in education, skills development, and innovation to unlock greater socio-economic opportunities for Tanzanians.
This renewed partnership sets the stage for enhanced bilateral engagement and underscores the role of international cooperation in building a more resilient and inclusive Tanzania.
