Tanzania's national football team, Taifa Stars, kicked off their CECAFA 3 Nations Tournament campaign in style with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Uganda in the tournament’s opening match held at the Black Rhino Academy Stadium in Karatu, Arusha.

The decisive goal came early in the 14th minute, when striker Iddy Nado capitalized on a defensive lapse to put Tanzania ahead.

His clinical finish gave the home side the momentum they needed and set the tone for the rest of the match.

Tanzania maintained their lead through the remainder of the first half, going into the break with a 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, Uganda came back stronger, making tactical changes aimed at overturning the deficit.

However, Tanzania’s backline remained disciplined and organized, repelling multiple attempts by the Ugandan forwards to find the equalizer.

Both teams displayed determination and resilience, but neither was able to add to the scoreline in the final 45 minutes.

Despite Uganda’s efforts to press forward, Tanzania held on to their lead, demonstrating strong defensive coordination and game management.

After 90 minutes, Taifa Stars walked off the pitch with a deserved 1-0 win, securing three crucial points as they aim for regional dominance.

Tanzania’s next challenge will be against Senegal, the tournament's invited guest team, in a match scheduled for July 24 at the same venue.

The CECAFA 3 Nations Tournament features three teams Tanzania, Uganda, and Senegal. Originally, Kenya was expected to participate, but the country withdrew from the competition, leaving the trio to battle for regional bragging rights.
