Government calls for stronger support to vulnerable children

The public has been called upon to support children facing difficult life circumstances, including orphans and those living and working on the streets, to ensure they receive proper care and equal opportunities.

The appeal was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, during a visit to the SOS Children’s Village in Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Jingu emphasized the government's commitment under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to improving the lives of vulnerable children across the country.

He said efforts are being made to ensure such children access essential services and grow up in nurturing environments.

"I’ve seen firsthand the care model used here, with dedicated parents and caregivers raising children in a family-like setting. It’s a powerful approach that gives these children a fair start in life," said Dr. Jingu.

He also encouraged NGOs and other development partners to focus on sustainable projects that will ensure long-term support and welfare for children in need.

Speaking during the visit, SOS Children’s Village Deputy Director Dorothy Ndege reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working alongside the government and other stakeholders to care for orphans and street-connected children.

"We will continue to strengthen our partnership with the government to ensure every child receives the protection and support they deserve," she said.
